I mentioned before I’m taking a class with one of my favorite artists-Alyssa Monks- her work contributed to my decision (however short lived) to attend New York Academy of Art.

Anyway, you can check out more of her work here.

there’s a bit of glare in the shadows on the back, and if I can tweak the photo I will. the back feels a bit darker in real life.
In anycase, this class has probably changed my painting brain forever, and I’m excited.

Cooper, 8x10, oil
This was a wedding gift for Emmy and Gavin— they rescued this dog together at the beginning of their relationship— from what I hear he tends to leave destruction in his path, but is so cute that it doesn’t matter.

Emmy's wedding!

One of my best friends from Florida had her Wedding this past weekend— and it was great! I’d never been to a wedding before but having logged 1,000s of hours watching WE tv shows, I can practically consider myself a pro.

Emmy was so beautiful and happy— and the place as you can see was pretty awesome.

painting the kitchen

The last time my apartment was painted was when my mother went to the hospital to give birth to me 24 years ago. Now I live here by myself. Why didn’t we repaint it sooner? Oh, it’s hard. The worst part was fixing (probably incorrectly) the crumbling mortar on the bricks. The funnest part was painting things that were eye level! I didn’t take any really good before pictures, and maybe I’ll post a better after picture when everything gets put back together.

I’m throwing out my old scenic painting assignments, they are all crumpled from improper storage and too huge to keep.
This was a cool exercise where we painted a scene that could transition from light to dark depending on if it was lit from the back or front. If you can’t tell, the second image is of the same canvas just in front of my window. (You paint black on the back of the canvas in the areas you don’t want to be illuminated, and you do thin dye washes for the areas you do.)
